Do you need to spend a fortune to learn the piano?
The piano is an incredible instrument, and once you have mastered some of the basics you can play a huge range of beautiful songs, no wonder more and more people are now trying to learn to play. If you wanted to learn the piano in the past then you needed to spend thousands on a real piano (and try to fit it somewhere) which I am sure put a lot of people off learning, but now you can get cheap keyboards that have the right amount of keys and even imitate the sound of a real piano.
You can also buy inexpensive courses or piano instruction books now that save you needing to go to lots of expensive lessons. They will only teach you the basics though, so don’t expect them to turn you into a concert pianist from the comfort of your home, you need hundreds of hours of tuition if you really want to master the piano, and that would be a lot of DVDs. They will enable you to start playing some of your favorite songs and teach you all about how music is structured, along with all the beginner and intermediate playing techniques.
If you do complete the course you bought, then you are in a great position to seek out lessons, and you will have saved yourself a lot of money as you don’t need all those awkward first lessons where you know nothing about the piano. Now you don’t walk in as a brand new piano player who has no experience at all, you know how to play and what to play and the tutor can concentrate on improving your skills, making sure your posture is correct so you don’t get any problems if you play a lot, and ironing out any bad playing habits you might have developed.
